Trained as a field geologist, my research bridges Solid Earth and Ocean Sciences, as I work to reconstruct earthquake histories and past sea-level change. I am an assistant professor at the Earth Observatory of Singapore and the Asian School of the Environment at NTU and have been based in Singapore for more than a decade. In normal times, my field areas include coastal sites in Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines, and inland sites in Myanmar and California. After travel restrictions were imposed, I moved my group’s field work to Singapore and online. We sought local field sites where we could continue to address our driving research questions; we have spent time innovating to develop new field techniques to push our science forward; and we have explored what we can learn using remote sensing.
