Session Description | Asian monsoon strongly affects the climate in Asia. GAME (GEWEX Asian Monsoon Experiment) was conducted as an international scientific research project in WCRP (World Climate Research Program)/GEWEX (Global Energy and Water Cycle Experiment) for the better understanding monsoon, focusing mainly on land-atmosphere interaction, and successfully finished in March 2005. As a follow-on research project in WCRP/GEWEX, MAHASRI (Monsoon Asian Hydro-Atmosphere Scientific Research and Prediction Initiative) has been proposed for the period 2006-2015. This project will focus on the atmosphere-land-ocean interactions related with Asian monsoon. Also, CEOP (Coordinated Enhanced Observing Period) finished its Phase-I activities in 2005, and now planning its Phase-II, and ten-year implementation plan for the GEOSS (Global Earth Observation System of Systems) has been started for better scientific understanding on the global earth system since 2005 based on the agreement of the Third Earth Observation Summit at Johannesburg. They serve us an opportunity to expand our improvement of understanding on Asian summer and winter monsoon. We call for the presentations not only directly related to MAHASRI, CEOP and GEOSS, but also in climatological, meteorological and hydrological studies on Asian monsoon. Application studies, such as food production, flood warning system, water resources management in monsoon Asian region are also welcome. |
