Session Description | Two years have passed since the 2004 Sumatra-Andaman earthquake and Indian Ocean tsunami. Various kinds of research related to this earthquake and tsunami have been conducted from different view points including natural and social sciences and civil engineering, in order to improve forecast and risk analysis of earthquakes, tsunami warning and mitigation technology, public education and awareness for natural hazards, and urban planning for safe environments. It is important to integrate such interdisciplinary and international efforts toward the ultimate restoration from this global scale natural disaster. This session is planned for related researchers of natural and social sciences, and civil engineering to meet together in order to exchange results and observations toward the holistic understanding of the event and discuss problems that need to be solved for the ultimate restoration of the affected areas and people. Any papers related to the event are welcome. |
