Session Title Global Climate/Sea-Level Changes and Responses of Geo-environments in Tidal Shallow Seas and Coastal Zones
Main Convener Dr. Jae Hwa Jin (Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resource, Korea, South)
Co-convener(s) Dr. Yoshiki Saito (National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Japan)
Dr. Daidu Fan (Tongji University, China)
Session Description This session deals with the worldwide hot issue "global climate/sea-level changes" and their impacts on tidal shallow seas and coastal zones reponding to the changes in various ways. There has been increasing evidence for appropriateness of tidal shallow seas in doing such researches. Strong tide-driven currents hinder bioturbation of sediment, and sediment partitioning leads high-rates sedimentation in some areas, helping tidal sediment to preserve records of global changes as a good resolution much higher than deep sediment does. The session topics are not limited to a clear verification of records about global changes and impacts but encompass all interesting phenomena in tidal shallow geo-environments, related to the global changes of various scales.
