Session Title Coastal processes and pollutant transport in macro-tidal regimes
Main Convener Dr. Vethamony P (National Institute of Oceanography, India)
Co-convener(s) Dr. Pavel Tkalich (National University of Singapore, Singapore)
Session Description In macro-tidal regions, tidal currents play a vital role in the pollutant transport. In regions such as Gulf of Kachchh and Rattray islands, it is residual / eddies rather than the instantaneous tidal flows which contribute to the net transport of materials. Flushing of the system will also be faster if topographically induced tidal eddies are present. Therefore, role of these eddies in pollutant transport and pathways of pollutants in the coastal regions are important for ecosystem conservation.
