Session Description | Recent advance in high-velocity friction of faults has been rapidly filling the gap between fault mechanics and seismology. Results from fault mechanics studies have predicted constitutive properties, such as slip weakening distance and fracture energy, that are consistent with seismically-determined values, and it is becoming possible to model earthquake generation processes based on measured properties of faults. This session encourage submission of papers on (1) natural fault zone structures, (2) mechanical and transport properties of fault zones, (3) modeling of earthquake generation, (4) seismological studies on earthquake source processes and fault constitutive parameters, and (5) relevant studies. Interdisciplinary approaches are encouraged, but we also welcome disciplinary studies on those topics. |
