Session Title | Tracking Plume Activities Using Geochemical Signatures of Extrusive and Intrusive Rocks |
Main Convener | Dr. Jyotisankar Ray (University of Calcutta, India) |
Co-convener(s) | Dr. Krishnakanta Singh Athokpam (Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, NE Unit, Itanagar-791113, India, India) Dr. EzzElDin Khalaf (Cairo University, Egypt) Dr. Leone Melluso (di Scienze della Terra Universita' di Napoli Federico II, Italy) |
Session Description | Large igneous provinces (LIPs) are constructed when copious amounts of mantle-derived magmas enter the Earth’s crust in localized regions. Mantle plumes and their extrusive and intrusive manifestations often serve to identify prevailing tectonic domains and geodynamic frame.Petrological and geochemical tools are necessary to elucidate ancient / modern plume activities over the globe in a more sustained manner. |
