Session Title | Gas Hydrates, the Future Major Energy Resource |
Main Convener | Dr. Kalachand Sain (National Geophysical Research Institute, Uppal Road, Hyderabad, India) |
Co-convener(s) | Dr. Saulwood Lin (National Taiwan University, Taiwan) Prof. Ryo Matsumoto (University of Tokyo, Japan) Dr. Byong-Jae Ryu (Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources, Korea, South) Dr. Harsh Gupta (National Geophysical Research Institute, India, India) |
Session Description | Gas hydrates have engrossed the geo-scientific community due to their natural occurrences, role in climate change and huge energy potential (up to two times the fossil fuel energy potential). Gas hydrates are considered as a viable source of energy of many countries in the Asia-Oceania region with limited conventional natural resources. Therefore, it is vey essential for identifying the prospective areas, demarcating the extent of occurrences, understanding the genesis and nature of distribution and quantifying the resource potential by various geological, geophysical, geochemical and microbiological methods to augment the exploitation technologies. It is also necessary to study the possible impact of production on environment. Session invites study on processes related to gas hydrate formation, mode of occurrences, model of fluid/gas migration, and production feasibility. |
