Session Title | Regional Climate Modeling on Extreme Climate and Climate Change |
Main Convener | Prof. Dong-Kyou Lee (Seoul National University, Korea, South) |
Co-convener(s) | Mr. Congbin Fu (Chinese Academy of Sciences, China) Prof. Xin-Zhong Liang (University of Illinois, United States) |
Session Description | Much effort has been devoted to the development and improvement of regional climate models (RCMs) to reproduce regional details embedded within a low-resolution global model. RCMs have been applied not only to dynamical downscaling of GCM climate change simulations, but also seasonal climate predications to obtain useful regional climate information. In recent years regional climate models have been widely used for impact assessment of climate change on hydrology and ecosystem. In this session, recent studies on regional climate modeling will be presented, in particular, on extreme climate in changing climate. Sub-topics of this session are as follows; 1) Predictability of extreme climate (tropical cyclone, flood, drought) 2) Variability of terrestrial hydrology and ecosystem 3) Coastal oceans and land-air-sea interactions 4) Impact of global warming on high-impact weather and climate 5) Projection of regional climate change |
