Session Title Geological Terranes and Metallogenesis in Asia
Main Convener Prof. Khin Zaw (University of Tasmania, Australia)
Co-convener(s) Prof. Azman Ghani (Geology Department, University of Malaya, Malaysia)
Dr. Somboon Khositanont (Department of Mineral Resources, Thailand)
Dr. EzzElDin Khalaf (Cairo University, Egypt)
Session Description Geological terranes are coherent entiity of crustal blocks with broadly similar geology and lithology bounded by suture or major fault zones and foldbelts. This section will outline current understanding of geological terranes and metallogenic relations in Asia, in particular South China and SE Asia and focus on economically important Cu-Au and Pb-Zn ore systems and the aspects of exploration significance. Any contribution from new geological, geochemical and geocronological constraints on tectonic relations and metallogenesis of the region are welcomed.
