Session Title | Numerical Modelling and Data Assimilation of Mesocale Tropical Weather |
Main Convener | Prof. Tieh-Yong Koh (Nanyang Technological University, Singapore) |
Co-convener(s) | Prof. Shigeo Yoden (Kyoto University, Japan) |
Session Description | This session is part of an evolving biennial series at AOGS surrounding the theme of numerical modelling of tropical weather. The previous two sessions were on "Applied Mesoscale NWP in SE Asia" (Singapore, 2006) and "NWP and Data Assimilation in SE Asia" (Busan, 2008). Throughout this series, the central focus remains on mesoscale tropical weather, especially those relevant to the less researched Southeast Asia, but overlaps with convective weather in tropical Oceania, South and East Asia, or with warm-season Northeast Asia. Presentations on tropical phenomena such as diurnal circulation, thunderstorms, squalls and MCS are welcome and work that relates numerical modelling to dynamical understanding and observational evidence are encouraged. Through the discussions at our biennial sessions, we wish to sustain a regular platform for scientists with related interests to interact and ultimately facilitate the growth of an active research community in Asia-Oceania with an international outreach. Followed immediately by AS25 Sasaki Symposium on Data Assimilation for Atmospheric, Oceanic and Hydrological Applications |
