Session Title AMY3 - Monsoon Modeling
Main Convener Prof. Jianping Li (Chinese Academy of Sciences, China)
Co-convener(s) Prof. Kyung-Ja Ha (Pusan National University, Korea, South)
Dr. BN Goswami (Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, India)
Session Description The international program of Asian Monsoon Years (AMY 2007-2012) is a new cross-cutting initiative between GEWEX and CLIVAR and a coordinated observation and modeling effort under the leadership of WCRP. The long-term goal of AMY is to integrate the ongoing and planned national projects in Asian countries and other international research programs and activities so as to improve understanding of Asian monsoon system variability and predictability and to enhance monsoon prediction capacity for societal benefits as well as for additional benefit of each participating project. This session will mainly focus on the modeling progresses of monsoons aimed at better understanding of variability, dynamics and predictability of the monsoons at different time scales and how to improve monsoon modeling and prediction, especially invites presentations on the following topics of monsoon modeling:
- Modeling of diurnal cycle and annual cycle of monsoon;
- Modeling and prediction of intraseasonal variations (ISV);
- Seasonal to interannual predictability and prediction of monsoon;
- High resolution modeling of monsoon;
- Atmosphere-ocean-land-cryosphere-biosphere interactions;
- Multi-scale interactions;
- Aerosol-cloud-monsoon water cycle interactions and their impacts;
- Role of land on Asian monsoon;
- Human activity and changing monsoon environment;
- Monsoon variation under the warming climate and future projection of Asian monsoon.
