Session Title | New Views of the SOLAR CORONA as seen from HINODE and SDO |
Main Convener | Dr. Dipankar Banerjee (Indain Institute of Astrophysics, India) |
Co-convener(s) | Prof. Gerry Doyle (Armagh Observatory, N. Ireland, United Kingdom) Dr. Peng-Fei Chen (Nanjing University, China) |
Session Description | Coronal science has evolved rapidly over the past few years due to a new generation of solar space missions. With the launch of Hinode in late 2006, and the planned launch of the Solar Dynamics Observatory in early 2010 we would like to review the status of the understanding of the solar corona. July 2010 will be an appropriate time to see the first results from SDO. Latest results on the theories of coronal heating and transients as revealed by multiwavelenth observations combined with theoretical simulations will be the focus of this session. Multiwavelenth spectral and imaging observational results from X-rays, EUV, radio and optical (from eclipses) will be covered. The session will not be restricted to the Hinode and SDO - but will include the recent results from other space missions, ground-based instruments. Prospects of future missions with particular emphasis on coronagraph missions will be also taken up. |
