Session Description | Role of Voluntary Organizations in Gound Water Management of Hard rock The science of geohydrology plays important role in watershed management and ground water availability. Geological characters differ from rock to rock hence the occurance and availability of water is not uniform from place to place. In hard rock like Basalt, Granite, Gneiss etc. the occurance of ground water is eratic. There is large variation in ground water availability at local extent. Major part of the hard rock facees acute scarecity of water and the region become draught prone. Due to this sorry state of affairs, in major part of the asian countries, Watershed Development Program have been launched with the help of local Voluntary Organizations. From the last two decades, V.Os are making commendable efforts in successful working of this activity, especially in hard rock terrain. Their role is not restricted to prospecting and exploring the already existed ground water, but also to make aware the community about the conjunctive use of this precious commodity. Also to guide the rural populace regarding the cropping pattern so that the farmers make modification in their traditional crops (as per availability of water). The rural economy had enhanced due to the efforts of Government, Funding Agencies and Voluntary Organizatioons By considering all such practices adopted by the society with the help of V.O the idea of taking a technical sesion of this kind come forward. Hence with the help of Association of Geologists and Hydrogeologists (GEOFORUM) a purely academic voluntery organization this session is proposed in the forthcoming meeting to be held in July 2010 at Hyderabad. |
