Session Title Exploration and Exploitation of Gas Hydrates, Major Energy Resource in the 21st Century
Main Convener Dr. Kalachand Sain (National Geophysical Research Institute, India)
Co-convener(s) Dr. Saulwood Lin (Institute of Oceanography, National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan)
Prof. Ryo Matsumoto (University of Tokyo, Japan)
Dr. Byong-Jae Ryu (Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources, Korea, South)
Dr. Harsh Gupta (National Geophysical Research Institute, India, India)
Session Description Gas hydrates have attracted the scientific community because of their abundant occurrences in the outer continental margins and permafrost regions, enormous energy potential and role on environment. Many countries in the Asia-Oceania regions have potential deposits of gas hydrates. Therefore, it is necessary for the exploration of gas hydrates to boost the feasible production technologies and study of likely impact of production on environment. The Session invites papers on identification, quantification, genesis, physical properties of gas hydrates using various geological, geophysical, geochemical and microbiological methods, and doable technologies for production.
