Session Title | Application of Argo Observation to Ocean and Climate Studies |
Main Convener | Prof. Dake Chen (Second Institue of Oceanography, China) |
Co-convener(s) | Dr. Ravichandran M (Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services, India) |
Session Description | The newly established global network of Argo autonomous profiling floats is a truly revolutionary advancement in ocean observation, and it has started to show tremendous impact on ocean and climate research on global as well as regional scales. The aim of this session is to review the current status of Argo application to regional ocean and climate studies, to exchange ideas among AGOS scientists on their Argo-related research efforts, and to promote new development in Argo science and technology. In general, we invite discussions on any topics of ocean and climate research that make use of Argo data. In particular, we encourage papers on the application of Argo data to improving our understanding, monitoring and prediction of upper ocean thermohaline structure, typhoon-ocean interaction, seasonal-to-interannual variability, and monsoonal ocean circulation. Studies that demonstrate the needs for improvement and modification of Argo float and network design are also welcome. |
