Session Description Asian Snow and Glaciers control the Indian monsoon and the Asian climate. Recently, snow and glaciers of Asia became hot topic for discussion due to its strong impact on the changing climate and its consequences on the hydrological cycle and sea level rise. The retreat and advancing of glaciers were expressed by many scientific groups based on limited ground observations. Multi satellites sensors operational in visible and microwave wavelengths provided information about snow and glaciers, meteorological and atmospheric parameters. The changes in land use and land cover have also lead to an increase in dust and anthropogenic activities that have direct and indirect impact on the snow albedo and melting of glaciers, the intensity of such activities vary along the Himalayan range. Contributed and poster papers on various aspects, such as: mapping and monitoring, dust and anthropogenic activities, river flow, relation with climate, Indian monsoon, ground and satellite observations; are invited.
