Section IWG - Interdisciplinary Working Groups
Session Title Gas Hydrates, Major Energy Resource in the 21st Century
Main Convener Dr. Tsanyao Frank Yang (National Taiwan University, Taiwan)
Co-convener(s) Dr. Sung-Rock Lee (Gas Hydrate R&D Organization, Korea, South)
Dr. Tatsuo Saeki (Japan Oil, Gas Metals National Corporation, Japan)
Dr. Kalachand Sain (National Geophysical Research Institute, India)
Session Description Natural gas hydrate has a wide distribution, large reserves, shallow depth of occurrence, high energy density and relatively clean and so very likely to become important natural gas resources in the 21st century. Many countries in the Asia-Oceania regions have potential deposits of gas hydrates and have conducted various phases of integrated programs with fruitful results. Therefore, it is a good opportunity to bring together scientists from interdisciplinary fields to present their recent gas hydrate works. In this session, we invite all kind of gas hydrate related studies, including: gas hydrate fundamentals, natural gas hydrates (origins, distribution and geochemical and geophysical characterization, micro & macrobiology etc.), production potential, techniques, strategy and methods, well design and possible impact of production on environment.
