Section HS - Hydrological Sciences
Session Title Land-Atmosphere Interactions
Main Convener Prof. Chung-Hsiung Sui (National Taiwan University, Taiwan)
Co-convener(s) Dr. Shufen Sun (Chinese Academy of Sciences, China)
Dr. Jesse Meng (Environmental Modeling Center, National Centers for Environmental Prediction, NOAA, United States)
Dr. Ming-Hsu Li (National Central University, Taiwan)
Session Description Interactions between the land and atmosphere strongly influence weather, climate, hydrological cycle and the ecosystem. Inhomogeneous and varying land surface conditions, ground water, and fast changing atmospheric processes make these interactions difficult to study and require cross-disciplinary investigations. This session solicits papers focusing on measurements and modeling of exchanges of energy, moisture and trace constituents (including water vapor and aerosol) in the land-atmosphere system, as well as mechanisms controlling the changes in atmospheric processes and how they affect convection, ecosystem, weather and climate.
