Session Description From the viewpoint of the seismic hazards mitigation, earthquake prediction is one of considered approaches. However, it is still a controversial issue. There are some precursory phenomena, which can be associated with the forthcoming large earthquakes, are reported from different fields, such as geophysics, geochemistry, geodetics, and hydrology. Such precursors may represent the changes of stress state in the crust before the failure of a fault. The aim of this session is to bring together of the studies on earthquake precursor and forecasting. We focus our discussion on the observations of precursor and related stress variation in the crust, forecasting assessments based on statistical and/or physics models, the earthquake initiation and related triggering problems.
