Session Title New Advance on Tectonic Evolution of Asia
Main Convener Dr. Xixi Zhao (University of California Santa Cruz, United States)
Co-convener(s) Prof. Chengshan Wang (China University of Geosciences (Beijing), China)
Prof. Réjean Hébert (Université Laval Québec, Canada)
Prof. Wenjiao Xiao (Chinese Academy of Sciences, China)
Session Description Asia was formed through the amalgamation and accretion of numerous continental blocks/terranes. The consequences of tectonic activity in Asia, especially the northward convergence of India with Asia, have produced the Tibetan Plateau and also deformed large parts of central and eastern Asia. This session invites all recent findings from multidisciplinary studies relating to the origin and evolution history of Asian blocks, the growth history of the Tibetan Plateau and Himalayas, the comparison of ancient tectonics with current deformation, and studies that integrate geological and geophysical data.
