Session Title Session Honoring Prof. Bor-Ming Jahn on "Continental Magmatism and the Formation of Juvenile Crust in Asia"
Main Convener Dr. J. Gregory Shellnutt (Academia Sinica, Taiwan)
Co-convener(s) Prof. Sun-Lin Chung (National Taiwan University, Taiwan)
Dr. Kuo-Lung Wang (Academia Sinica, Taiwan)
Session Description The career of Bor-Ming Jahn has spanned over four decades and four billion years. Prof. Jahn studied a myriad of geological problems from the Earth to the Moon. He was amongst the first to work with lunar samples while at Johnson Space Centre in Houston, Texas. He also wrote important papers on Asia-Pacific magmatism and its relationship to fast subduction rates and Archean komatiities from Southern Africa. More recently, Bor-Ming has spearheaded interest in the Central Asian Orogenic Belt and the formation of juvenile crust. His contributions to the geosciences are numerous and varied and he was amongst the first of the post-war generation of Taiwanese researchers who set their sites on internationally focused research. We would like to organize a special session entitled "Continental Magmatism and the Formation of Juvenile Crust in Asia" so that we may commemorate the career Prof. Jahn during the upcoming AOGS in Taipei.

We propose to convene a day-long session with about twenty presentations or so related to, but not exclusive to, magmatism and the formation of juvenile crust in the Central Asian Orogenic Belt, Emeishan large igneous province, the Arabian-Nubian Shield and Eastern China and Japan. The topics are of broad interest, pertinent to AOGS, researchers from Asia and the world and would be a fitting tribute to the legacy of Prof. Jahn’s research and contributions to the Geology of Asia.
