Session Description Several destructive earthquakes have struck East and Southeast Asia in recent years. The sudden deformations that produced these events are small, incremental components of larger and longer-lasting active tectonic processes. Both the seismic events and their active tectonic backdrops illuminate each other. In this session, we welcome the participation of scientists who work at both ends of this spectrum – from characterizing individual earthquakes and modern interseismic deformation to understanding the long-term construction of active orogens and subduction zones. We encourage submissions from scientists in all disciplines of earthquake geology, including active tectonics, paleoseismology, paleo-tsunami, geodetic analysis, and modeling.
