Session Description The CREAT project would like to use the opportunity of this AOGS 2011 to convene a section in honor of Prof. Bor-ming Jahn’s retirement. Since the proposal of the collision-escape tectonic model, the evolution of shear belts within Eurasia has been the focus of study of numerous international research teams. Many aspects of geochronology, magmatic and structural evolution had been applied to gain further understanding about the role of shear belts in the tectonic evolution of SE Asia. Many new research results and methods have advanced for the past decades. Geoscientists are welcomed to present their new advances and research results for the following topics: geochronological, petrological and structural evolution of shear belts of Asia; deformation mechanism of shear belts; Tectonic significance of major shear belts within Eurasia.
