Session Title Paleoclimatic and Paleoceanographic Records from Western Pacific Marginal Seas
Main Convener Dr. Yuan-Pin Chang (National Sun Yat-sen University, Taiwan)
Co-convener(s) Dr. Zhonghui Liu (The University of Hong Kong, China)
Session Description Paleoclimatic and Paleoceanographic records reconstructed from the region of western Pacific marginal seas and the East Asian continent have significantly improved our understanding of dynamics or interactions between polar and tropical regions both on orbital- and millennial-scales. However, there are still debates on the probable feedback mechanisms for driving global climate system. For example, how basinwide climatic behaviors in the equatorial regions link to global atmosphere and ocean circulations is still unknown. Moreover, our knowledge is still limited about the possible role that intermediate water may play on controlling long-term climatic variations in the Western Pacific. In this session, we propose to present updated results of paleoclimatic and paleoceanographic studies which are retrieved from the Western Pacific and East Asia. Presentations on new proxy data which can improve our understandings on the possible teleconnection between low and high latitudes on orbital- to millennial-scales are particularly welcomed.
