Session Description Clouds play critical roles in climate and global energy and water cycles. Representing precipitation, clouds, convection and their radiative effects in numerical weather and regional/global climate models remains a challenge. Understanding these roles in both regional and global scales is the key to realistically represent clouds in models. Significant progress has been made recently in observational and modeling studies of clouds, precipitation and radiation budget. In this session, we invite papers on: 1)Field and satellite observations of clouds, convection, precipitation and radiation budget; 2)Impacts of clouds on energy-water cycle; 3)Modeling cloud processes with various models; 4)Validation of improved cloud representations in models with observations.
