Session Title Tropical Atmospheric Dynamics and Regional Climate Modelling
Main Convener Prof. Tieh-Yong Koh (Nanyang Technological University, Singapore)
Co-convener(s)
Session Description Under the backdrop of global climate change, regional climate prediction has become an important task confounding atmospheric scientists. While regional climate modeling capability is being developed within Asia-Oceania to meet this challenge, there is a parallel need to advance the knowledge and understanding of tropical dynamics. This session serves as a platform to exchange ideas on tropical atmospheric dynamics and tropical climate modeling. It is hoped that an international gathering of atmospheric dynamicists and modelers would review the theoretical ideas on the dynamics of the tropical atmosphere and recent advances in the modeling of regional climate in Asia-Oceania. A firm understanding of dynamics would help in the interpretation of the model results from sophisticated climate prediction models, while climate modeling results would reveal areas of tropical dynamics for which our understanding needs to be improved.

Some funding from Earth Observatory of Singapore is likely to be available to partially support participants from developing countries in this session.
