Session Title | Scaling and Stochastic Processes, Extremes and Nonlinear Variability, in the Ocean, Atmosphere, Hydrology and Climate |
Main Convener | Prof. Francois Schmitt (CNRS-LOG, France) |
Co-convener(s) | Prof. Tieh-Yong Koh (Nanyang Technological University, Singapore) |
Session Description | Geophysical fields generally display high variability on a wide range of scales, which is associated with an underlying nonlinear variability and complex coupling between fields and scales. This methodological session is devoted to studying such high variability, in several fields of geosciences. In this framework, this session will consider scaling and nonlinear aspects of physical, biological, chemical fields in the ocean, atmosphere and hydrology, at all scales from microscales to climate. The sessions will welcome theoretical and experimental studies, statistical modelling papers, as well as presentations belonging to nonlinear, scaling, fractal, multifractal, stochastic processes, extreme events frameworks. |
