Session Title | Gas Hydrates as a Viable Major Energy Resource or Hazard! |
Main Convener | Dr. Kalachand Sain (CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute, India) |
Co-convener(s) | Dr. Ingo Pecher (University of Auckland, New Zealand) Prof. Ryo Matsumoto (University of Tokyo, Japan) Dr. Byong-Jae Ryu (Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources, Korea, South) |
Session Description | Gas hydrates have attracted the Geo-scientific community due to their abundant occurrences in outer continental margins and permafrost regions; their role in climate change; their effect on seafloor stability; and their huge energy potential. Many countries in the Asia-Oceania regions have deposits of gas hydrates, which may be considered as a viable major un-conventional energy resource with their limited conventional resources. Thus, the session invites papers on Geo-scientific investigation of gas hydrates; feasible production technologies; and possible impact on environment. |
