Session Title Regional Climate Projections and Climate Impacts
Main Convener Dr. Srivatsan Raghavan (National University of Singapore, Singapore)
Co-convener(s) Dr. Minh Tue Vu (National University of Singapore, Singapore)
Session Description The findings from the IPCC, Third Assessment Report (TAR), released in 2001 and that of the Fourth Assessment Report released in 2007, show many evidences that climate change has already affected many sectors in Southeast Asia. These climate changes have impacts on other physical systems - increasing temperatures and increasing extreme weather events also lead to the decline of crop yield in many Southeast Asian countries (Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia), massive flooding in Hanoi, Hue (Vietnam), Jakarta (Indonesia), Vientiane (Laos), landslides in Philippines and droughts in many other parts of the region. Water shortage, agriculture constrains, food security, infectious diseases, forest fires and degradation of coastal and marine resources have also been increasing.

With this background, the session invites papers on regional climate modeling studies and impact studies (hydrological, crop, fires, flooding, cyclone etc) on Asia and Southeast Asia. Presentations on similar studies from the other parts of the world are welcome too.
