Session Description Degradation of ecosystems, e.g. terrestrial deforestation, coastal mangrove loss, not only impairs ecosystem services that are critical for community survival and development, but can affect also local to regional climate through both biophysical and biogeochemical pathways. Therefore, concrete co-benefits can be achieved by harmonizing ecosystem restoration and rehabilitation strategies with climate mitigation and adaptation. This session welcomes papers on restoration ecology , land use, land use change and forestry (LULUCF), and climate science and policy that describe how addressing declining ecosystems and ecosystem services can also contribute towards adaptation, mitigation and overall sustainable development.
