Co-convener(s) | Dr. Jiuhou Lei (University of Science and Technology of China, China) |
Session Description | Recent experimental and theoretical investigations have provided new insights into the climatology of the thermosphere and ionosphere on global and regional scales. These studies are continuing to develop as new data sets and modeling capabilities increase our understanding of how the upper atmosphere responds to solar and terrestrial forcing. Examples include: variations in neutral density on annual and solar cycle time scales, the equinoctial peaks in F-region electron density, solar cycle variations of the ionospheric winter anomaly, and secular change in upper atmosphere temperature and density. This session solicits papers that address climatology in the thermosphere and ionosphere, including, but not limited to, annual and multi-year changes in the upper atmosphere, studies of the last solar minimum, long-term trends, and new data sources and techniques applicable to thermosphere and ionosphere climate. Both observational and modeling studies are welcomed. |
