Session Description | Plasma wave processes of various temporal and spatial scales play important roles in geospace. ULF and ELF plasma waves transport and couple energy through the magnetosphere, ionosphere and related cavities. EMIC waves are recognized to contribute loss of radiation belt electrons through pitch-angle scattering into the ionosphere. VLF chorus generate relativistic radiation belt electrons and in precipitating auroral electrons into the high latitude ionosphere. In addition anomalous changes in wave properties, such as Schumann resonances in the Earth-ionosphere cavity, may be associated with seismic events. Recent ground-network observations, multi-spacecraft in-situ observations, and improved precision of modeling and simulation studies, altogether contribute to better understanding of this multi-scale coupled system in which waves are significant. This session provides an opportunity to showcase latest results in these areas, and applications to space weather studies. |
