Session Details
Section SE - Solid Earth Sciences
Session Title Tectonics and Ore Deposits of the Southwest Pacific Region
Main Convener Dr. Chun Kit Lai (Cenozoic Geoscience Editing, Australia)
Co-convener(s) Dr. Hai Thanh Tran (Hanoi University of Mining and Geology, Viet Nam)
Dr. Jillian Aira Gabo (Kyushu University, Japan)
Session Description The proposal builds on the previous success of the session “Geology and ore deposits of SE Asia (SE09, AOGS 2013)”, which have attracted a large number of high-quality abstracts, presentations and posters from all over SE Asia, China and Australia. As requested by our many AOGS 2013 participants, we are expanding the region of interest in AOGS 2014 to encompass the entire SW Pacific region, which include South China, Taiwan, SE Asia, Australasia, as well as the SW Pacific islands. Topics of interest include (but not limited to) regional geology and tectonics, ore deposits, geodynamics, petrology and geochemistry, sedimentology and palaeontology, geochronology, geophysics, analytical and geomodelling technology, etc.
The SW Pacific region is well-known for its geological complexity and its rich and diverse mineral resource endowment. It is also a natural geoscience laboratory because of the co-existence of both ancient and new geodynamic systems. Because of this, we aim to attract geoscience researchers from all over the world to share their research experience in resolving some of the geological and mineral exploration challenges in the region.
