Co-convener(s) | Dr. Hiroyuki Hashiguchi (Kyoto University, Japan) Dr. Hanh Nguyen (Bureau of Meteorology, Australia) |
Session Description | The Maritime Continent (MC) is a unique region in the tropics between Pacific and Indian Ocean. The MC is characterised by the mixture of the ocean so-called "warm pool" with high-SST and the numerous islands with various topography. The characteristics are projected to the atmosphere and the ocean in broad spectrum of variations such as ENSO, Walker circulation, intraseasonal variation, diurnal cycle, etc. This session solicits contributions from vast range of studies on the atmospheric and oceanic sciences over the MC. By assembling the latest insights on the nature over the MC, we will discuss what we have been understood and what we should do for further comprehension on the climate and weather over the MC and their role in global system. |
