Session Description | This session is part of a biennial series at AOGS focusing on numerical modelling of tropical atmospheric phenomena. The titles of the previous sessions are listed below. Throughout this series, we have hosted presentations on diurnal circulation, squalls and mesoscale convective systems, MJO and intra-seasonal variations, monsoons, and regional impacts of inter-annual variations like ENSO and IOD. Works that relate regional numerical modelling to observational evidence and dynamical understanding in the tropics are particularly relevant to this session, as they relate fundamental theories to applications in the real atmosphere. Multiscale and extratropical-tropical interactions would be topics of interest as well. In addition, as we perceive a relative dearth in research into Southeast Asian atmospheric systems, we would like to encourage the submission of abstracts on such work. Through the discussions at our biennial sessions, we wish to sustain a platform for scientists with related interests to interact regularly and ultimately facilitate the growth of an active research community in Asia-Oceania with an international outreach. • "Applied Mesoscale NWP in SE Asia" (Singapore, 2006) • "NWP and Data Assimilation in SE Asia" (Busan, 2008) • “Numerical Modelling and Data Assimilation of Mesoscale Tropical Weather” (Hyderabad, 2010) • "Numerical Modelling of Weather and Regional Climate in the Tropics" (Singapore, 2012) |
