Session Description | In view of the last economic, societal and environmental debacle caused by the earthquakes and related tsunami along the Indian and Pacific Ocean in 2004, 2010 and 2011 the compromise and priorities by governments to protect coastlines and riparian societies has been thoroughly revised. Nowadays the priorities rely on improving disaster mitigation and prevention, recovery and restoration, early warning and forecast and to ensure better protection, faster and efficient reconstruction and redevelopment. As a result a large number of research institutions, the academia and organisations worldwide have devoted enormous amounts of funds during the last decade focusing on technological and engineering designs and practices improving efficiency, urban redevelopment, modelling and early warning, strengthen preparedness simulation as well as monitoring systems for earthquake/tsunami disaster mitigation and recovery as well as building societal resilience against earthquake and tsunami hazards. Moreover, the fact that Nankai earthquake and tsunami to hit south and in central Japan in the future may cause more damage than any previous events has further increase the efforts, as its economic reverbarance may be felt worldwide. The proposed session is expected to bring experts from institutions, research centres and organizations to share their knowledge and experiences while identifying managerial aspects and gaps on the above-mentioned fields. The ultimate purpose of the session is to better understand and be prepared against future natural hazards particularly earthquakes and resulting tsunamis. Meteotsunamis although of different origin would also be included. In the session invited speakers (2-3) and presenters (6-7) will share their work (English language); the interaction with the public will be through the Q&A section after each presentation. A poster exhibition to complement the session is also envisaged to take place for those who will chose this part of participation. |
