Co-convener(s) | Dr. S Suresh Babu (Indian Space Research Organisation, India) Dr. Masatomo Fujiwara (Hokkaido University, Japan) |
Session Description | Recent intense air pollution over Asia may affect on Asian summer monsoon system (ASM) and change regional and global climate as well weather condition such as rainfall patterns across Asia. Pollution and biomass burning coupled to the monsoon convection may also have significant impact on the composition of the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere. The ASM system therefore has a significant role in chemistry-climate interactions on both regional and global scales. In this session, we focus on the interaction between changing atmospheric composition over Asia and the Asian summer monsoon. The scope of the session involves field-based study from the ground or by aircraft, remote sensing measurements from space or other platforms, and modeling studies including the coupling of ASM dynamics with regional emissions, air quality, aerosol and clouds. |
