Session Description The effects of climate change on climatic hazards in Asia Oceania need to be studied in detail. Of particular concern are climate extremes such as tropical cyclones, unusually warm ocean temperatures, sea level extremes, rainfall extremes and droughts, and their impacts. Accurate seasonal climate prediction and climate projections are highly important for developing adaptation measures in response to increase in frequencies of extreme climate events and will be a focus of the session this year. Presentations in this session will be concerned with, but not limited to, results of research on climate extremes in Asian Oceania - examining historical trends in climate extremes, predicting climate extremes on seasonal, interannual, decadal and longer time scales as well as providing recommendations how to plan current and future adaptation policies. The session "Climate change and tropical climatic hazards in Asia Oceania" has been successfully conducted at AOGS 2009 and AOGS 2012 in Singapore, AOGS 2010 in Hyderabad, AOGS 2011 in Taipei and AOGS 2013 in Brisbane. We look forward to your contribution and another successful session at AOGS 2014 in Sapporo.
