Session Title Prevention of the Next Liminic Eruption at Lake Nyos and Monoun
Main Convener Prof. Takeshi Ohba (Tokai University, Japan)
Co-convener(s) Dr. Gregory Tanyileke (Institute of Geological and Mining Research, Cameroon)
Session Description In 1984 and 1986, limnic eruptions happened at Lake Monoun and Nyos, Cameroon. The liminic eruptions were the explosive discharge of CO2 gas dissolved in the lake water. The limnic eruption is a very rare geologic hazard, only has happed at the lakes. The liminic eruptions killed 1800 of residents near the lakes in total. To prevent a limnic eruption in future, a collaborative project is running between the researchers in Japan and Cameroon. In this session, the preliminary results on the project will be presented. Irrespective of the project, various studies on the lake dissolving gas are welcome.
