Session Title | Interdisciplinary Approach to Study Crustal Activities by Ground and Space Observations |
Main Convener | Dr. Katsumi Hattori (Chiba University, Japan) |
Co-convener(s) | Prof. Qinghua Huang (Peking University, China) Dr. Jann-Yenq Liu (National Central University, Taiwan) Dr. Dimitar Ouzounov (Chapman University, United States) |
Session Description | We propose to discuss multi-sensors observations and interdisciplinary study to investigate pre-, co-, and post- crustal activities such as earthquakes, slowslips, volcanic activities, and so on. The observational data from the last twenty years suggeststhe existence of geochemical, atmospheric, and electromagnetic phenomenaprior to some major earthquakes and volcanic activities. For example, Recent catastrophic events in Japan (M9.0 2011), China(M7.9, 2008), Haiti (M7.0, 2010) and Chile (M8.8, 2010) suggest new evidence for a distinct coupling between the lithosphere and atmosphere/ionosphere. Topics of the session include: case studies, statistical studies, validation, and theoretical studies, laboratory experiments, which relates the crustal activities in tectonic, electro-chemical, and thermodynamic processes. |
