Session Title Hydrological Applications of Weather Radar Information with Improved QPE Accuracy and Higher Spatio-temporal Resolutions
Main Convener Prof. Eiichi Nakakita (Kyoto University, Japan)
Co-convener(s) Dr. Alan Seed (Bureau of Meteorology, Australia)
Dr. Tomoo Ushio (Osaka University, Japan)
Dr. Kazuhiko Fukami (National Institute for Land and Infrastructure Management, Japan)
Dr. Dong-Ryul Lee (Korea Institute of Construction Technology, Korea, South)
Session Description Now, we can recognize that hydrological, hydro-meteorological, hydro-climatological and water management applications of weather radar have entered a new era in the sense that products from weather radar observations can really be quantitatively utilized. The main reason is dramatic improvement of QPE accuracy by the realization of the latest parametric functions. Another reason is observations with higher spatio-temporal resolutions by utilizing more compact radar and/or new function such as phased array. The purpose of this session is to exchange experience of each country and new idea on those hydrological applications, and to make titer cooperation to solve them.
