Session Title Western Pacific Paleoceanography
Main Convener Dr. Takuya Itaki (Geological Survey of Japan, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, Japan)
Co-convener(s) Prof. Kyung-Eun Lee (Korea Maritime University, Korea, South)
Prof. Min-Te Chen (National Taiwan Ocean University, Taiwan)

Prof. Meixun Zhao (Ocean University of China, China)
Session Description The Kuroshio Current flowing along the western margin of the North Pacific subtropical gyre plays an important role in the heat and salt transportation from the Western Pacific Warm Pool to higher latitude. Therefore, the reconstruction of paleoceanographic changes from low to high latitudes in the western Pacific is critical for understanding changes in a large scale ocean circulation as well as the East Asian Monsoon in the past. In this session, we will invite presentations regarding paleoceanographic studies using various techniques such as geochemical, paleontological and modeling approaches from the western Pacific and its adjacent areas. Discussions forward to new scientific ideas for future international projects are expected from this session.
