Session Title | Geodetic Infrastructure for Asia Oceania: Importance for Reference Frames and Natural Hazards |
Main Convener | Dr. Richard Gross (Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology, United States) |
Co-convener(s) | Prof. Cheng-Li Huang (Shanghai Astronomical Observatory, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China) |
Session Description | One of the key goals of the Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS) is to actively promote the sustainment, improvement and evolution of the global geodetic infrastructure needed to meet Earth science and societal requirements. This infrastructure is essential for providing the observations needed to determine and maintain global and regional reference frames and is the backbone for using geodetic observations for natural hazard identification, assessment, prioritization, prediction, and early warning. This session, which is co-sponsored by GGOS and the Asia-Pacific Space Geodynamics (APSG) Program, is a forum for discussing applications of the geodetic infrastructure in Asia Oceania, including its use to determine national and regional reference frames and its use to study natural hazards. |
