Session Title Biogeochemical Cycling in Coastal Ecosystems
Main Convener Dr. Punyasloke Bhadury (Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata, India)
Co-convener(s) Dr. Dalin Shi (Xiamen University, China)
Session Description Coastal ecosystems are dynamic and rich in aquatic biodiversity rich including microbial communities. Elements such as carbon and nitrogen strongly influence productivity of aquatic coastal ecosystems. The distribution and residence times of various forms of C and N control structure and functioning of biotic communities including archaea and bacteria in any coastal aquatic ecosystem. This session intends to bring together scientists working in areas of coastal biogeochemistry in order to integrate current knowledge of coastal nutrient cycling with a particular emphasis on the role of biotic communities in mediating aquatic nutrient cycling. Submissions are particularly encouraged from biogeochemists, ecosystem modellers, microbiologists and molecular biologists working in areas of coastal nutrient cycling including carbon and nitrogen cycling as part of this session.
