Session Title Greenhouse Gases Emissions in Asian Terrestrial Ecosystems in a Changing World
Main Convener Dr. Xiaotang Ju (China Agricultural University, China)
Co-convener(s) Dr. Xianglan Li (Beijing Normal University, China)
Prof. Minggang Xu (Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, China)
Session Description The Asia-Oceania region has the largest population with an increasing need for food production. Thus, there has been widespread land-use and land-cover change. In addition, there is evidence of climate variability and change over the last century, e.g., warming and changes in precipitation pattern in the central Asia. These changes would alter biological and biogeochemical processes, with implications for the greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions from different terrestrial ecosystems such as cropland, grassland, and forest in the region. This session provides a forum for discussions of relevant research outcomes. Topics include, but are not limited to (1) mitigation options on methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from various terrestrial ecosystems, (2) modelling development on GHG estimation via process-based and other models, (3) carbon-nitrogen-water interaction and its effect on GHG emissions in the Asia-Oceania region (4) new equipment and techniques in GHG observation. We encourage submission of contributions using observational and modeling approaches.
