Session Title Responses of the Ecosystems to Global Change on the Tibetan Plateau
Main Convener Dr. Miaogen Shen (Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China)
Co-convener(s) Dr. Shiping Wang (Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China)
Dr. Shilong Piao (Peking University, China)
Session Description The Tibetan Plateau and its surroundings, also named as “The Third Pole” or “High Asia”, consist of a variety of ecosystems that are sensitive and vulnerable to their environments. Those ecosystems are experiencing substantial changes, in response to climate changes and human activities. Those changes could affect the living of both the local residents and neighbouring countries and regions. Moreover, the ecosystem changes could also exert feedbacks to climate system, causing changes in local climate and regional flows (e.g. the south Asia monsoon) which have more extensive consequences. In this session, researches on the above and related topics are expected.
