Session Description | Oceans are complex systems where there are strong interactions between physical, chemical and biological processes. These interactions cannot be treated in isolation and therefore interdisciplinary approaches need to be employed for a better understanding of our ocean systems. For example, this is important when studying the carbon and nutrient cycling as their sources and sinks are regulated not only by biological processes but also physical processes. This is also important when planning ocean resource harvesting (eg. fisheries) as they rely heavily on biological populations, nutrients loadings, water quality, and the prediction of climate change and ocean acidification. This session aims to encourage multidisciplinary oceanography discussions and knowledge development. |
