Session Description | The rapid advancement of both satellite remote sensing and numerical modeling has greatly enhanced our process and predictive understanding of oceanic, ecosystem-biogeochmical and coupled climate processes at all spatio-temporal scales. However, effective use of satellite data in improving models, model parameterizations, and physical and ecological predictions is still a daunting challenge. The aim of this session is to review new oceanic satellite products and applications of these products in the context of dynamical and ecosystem-biogeochemical process studies and model sensitivity studies at regional and global scales including coupled climate and Earth System modeling. We aim to advance interactions between remote sensing and modeling experts. In particular, we encourage papers on combined use of remote sensing and numerical modeling focused on coupled air-sea, mixed layer-thermocline, and bio-physical interactions. Studies that demonstrate the needs for improvement and modification of remote sensing methodology and modeling strategy to advance process and predictive understanding at subseasonal to interannual timescales are also welcome. |
