Session Title | Ocean Modeling, Remote Sensing And Data Assimilation |
Main Convener | Dr. Y. Tony Song (Jet Propulsion Laboratory, United States) |
Co-convener(s) | Prof. Jianping Gan (The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong SAR) Dr. Jiang Zhu (Chinese Academy of Sciences, China) Dr. Jae-Hong Moon (Jeju National University, Korea, South) |
Session Description | With increasing satellite observations (e.g., altimetry SSH, gravimetry OBP, ocean color, temperature, salinity, and wind) from space, numerical ocean modeling, remote sensing and their combinations through data assimilation have become the common and powerful approaches for oceanographic research. Together with in situ measurements, they have greatly improved our understanding of the changing ocean. This session focuses on science discoveries, technical innovations, and innovative applications with these approaches and their combinations. Possible topics include, but not limited to, sea level change, regional ocean circulation, shelf process, upwelling and river plume, topographic dynamics, air-sea interaction, climate related ocean variability, ocean prediction, model improvement, in situ and satellite data analysis. Focuses on the Asia Marginal Seas are particularly welcome. |
